Ticket information

Why is there no longer an upgrade to the nationwide semester ticket?

All universities in Lower Saxony and Bremen now offer their students the Germany semester ticket.
This means that there are no longer any state-wide semester tickets (as of April 2025).
The Deutschlandsemesterticket is valid on all local trains, S-Bahn trains, trams, underground trains and buses throughout Germany.

Where is the Deutschlandsemesterticket valid?

The ticket is valid on all local trains, suburban trains, trams, underground trains and buses throughout Germany.

If local transport tickets are recognised on individual long-distance or international routes (e.g. with the IC/EC between Bremen Hbf and Norddeich Mole/Emden Außenhafen, to Hengelo/NL), the Deutschlandsemesterticket is also valid for such journeys.

The Deutschlandsemesterticket is not valid on DB long-distance services and not on FlixTrain or FlixBus.

When was the Deutschlandsemesterticket introduced?

In Lower Saxony and Bremen, this ticket was introduced at many colleges and universities for the winter semester 2024/25.
Please check with your AStA or student representation whether the Deutschlandsemesterticket is offered at your college/university.

For universities with other time models, such as the tertial model, the respective trimester or tertial start date of the respective college/university applies.

How much does the Deutschlandsemesterticket cost?

The monthly price of the Deutschlandsemesterticket is 60% of the regular Deutschlandticket, currently €29.40 and from the winter semester 2025/26 €34.80 per month.

You pay for the ticket automatically with your semester fee if your university/college offers the ticket. If you have any questions, please contact your AStA.

How long is the Deutschlandsemesterticket valid for?

The ticket is issued for an entire semester and is valid from the first day until the last day of the winter or summer semester.

The travel authorisation ends automatically at the end of each semester. Cancellation is not necessary.

How do I get my Deutschlandsemesterticket?

Look out for the usual information channels (e.g. notices, emails or your college/university website) or contact your AStA or student administration.

The ticket is only issued digitally and appears in the wallet on your smartphone.

You can retrieve the ticket at the start of each semester. The requirement for this is that you are eligible for the Deutschlandsemesterticket and have paid for the ticket with your semester fee.

Do I have to identify myself when being checked on public transport?

In addition to the Deutschlandsemesterticket, a photo ID may be requested during checks.

How do I find the right ticket for travelling with people, a dog or a bicycle?

Use the practical FahrPlaner-App:
Simply enter the start and destination address, search for a suitable connection and scroll to the ticket offer. You can book the single ticket for children or adults, the bicycle day pass and the Niedersachsen-Ticket (as ticket offers Niedersachsentarif) directly online.

For tickets from the transport associations and other fare zones, visit their websites. There you will also find information on purchasing these tickets.
